I’m applying for jobs and have just started down the long and truly hilarious journey of cover letters and (hopefully) gainful employment. This is a genuine excerpt from my cover letter to the Philharmonic.

“Dear Sir or Madam:

I am interested in the Archives Intern position this summer posted through The University of Chicago’s Career Advising and Planning Services.

Having reviewed the job description and qualifications carefully, I believe I could perform this function exceptionally well. I say so, primarily, out of love. Perhaps a word like love doesn’t belong in a professional cover letter but I wasn’t sure how else to go about [it]”

Here’s looking at you, future. If you’re going to come over uninvited anyway, expect to be three drinks behind and the only one without a decent costume.

At night I wake up with the sheets soaking wet and freight train running through the middle of my head.

Bam. I made you another live video recording over break that I have failed to mix well until last night. Jay Everett is the most fabulous man on this planet. I love his music and lyrics and I loved recording his last album. This song has been playing in my head ever since we sat down that night and hammered this out.

“I love dancing with you and your face and food are fine!”

My brother Dan (left) and myself (other) got a camera. Everything is going to be different from now on. This is an original song by Dan. The beginning is for Markie.

I used to sing this song in concert with my sister and brother. It used to make my father so happy to see us all make music together. My friends are breaking my heart with all the beauty they contribute to this wild world. Thank God.

This was a whole lot of fun to put together and a great learning experience. What you see is what you get. Kudos to Brett Nelson for thinking of the project title. I’ll be sure to post with more frequency now that I’m so proud of how this all turned out. I hope you like it.

I’m pretty sure I’ll have to bring my studio to college after having such an awesome time pumping out these covers. For the record, the spoken word wasn’t scripted. I asked my dad what the pursuit of happiness meant to him and there you have it.

I take requests.
